Matsuri Japan Festival Byron Bay
Byron Bay Japanese Matsuri: Outdoor Picnic Dinner and Street Food
Get ready for a vibrant cultural celebration! The Byron Bay Japanese Matsuri is returning to Main Beach this October. The festival is dedicated to avoiding the hot summer sun, so the event starts at 2 pm. Therefore, guests can enjoy the evening beach breeze alongside an outdoor picnic dinner. This popular event offers YATAI Asian street foods under the lantern lights. The Byron Bay Japanese Matsuri is a massive celebration of Japanese culture.
Food, Music, and Entertainment
The event promises a full sensory experience. You can expect live Japanese music and traditional entertainment throughout the day. This includes not only powerful taiko drums but also traditional Bon-dance performances. The market features a total of 50 stalls. Specifically, this includes 15 dedicated Japanese street food and drinks vendors. Consequently, you can indulge in everything from savory ramen and takoyaki to sweet mochi and traditional Japanese beverages.
Markets and Community
Attendees can browse markets filled with kimonos and authentic Japanese goods. Furthermore, you can join fun and engaging craft workshops and Japanese kids’ games. The event’s focus is on community involvement and cultural exchange. In addition, the Beer Garden Fundraiser will be operating on the Surf Club Deck. This provides a great social spot for adults.
The Byron Bay Japanese Matsuri takes place on Saturday, October 18th, 2025. The main event runs from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The venue, Main Beach Byron Bay, opens at 12:00 pm, and a DJ and bar continue until 10 pm. Entry is Free! If there is wet weather, the event will downsize inside the Surf Club. The event organiser, the Byron Bay Japanese Matsuri Committee/Byron Taiko, is actively looking for people to get involved, with vendor applications open now.
